Friend asked to debate thoughts: "don't ask and don't tell policy civillian or miltary - your thoughts"?

I WAS going to post this in facebook, but decided not too in the end - here is what I was going to post.

I don't care personally. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone and no one gets killed over it - I say let it be. Discretion is the key! There is a time and a place for this type of stuff and one can do their duty and protect their country. It's called leaving problems at the door. So if you are - then leave that at the door when you are at work and focus on your duties and goals and then when you are off the clock, then go home and be happy.

If you are at Basic where it's not as simple, then you are apt to meet someone - there are rules about this stuff and there is a proper time and place and again discretion is the key and if opposite sex can make it work so can anyone else. Same rules and same logic - it's just trickier since it's not legal marriage. As long as no one is getting hurt and no one is getting killed I say let it be. They have a right to be just as miserable as the rest of us. They are capable of being in faithful relationships too. They are just like the rest of us it is just they choose same sex folks.

The logic is the same as being tall vs. short, inter-racial relationships folks, deaf folks with hearing folks, wheelchair folks with walking folks, and so on. Everyone is going to find someone or something to pick bones about and all of this is almost like it is on George of the Jungle when that lady said you don't mix leopards with zebra's or spots with stripes - everyone is going to be unhappy about something and pick about something. I just say if they are happy and if it is not REALLY hurting anyone, then let them be and let them live their lives.

*** I didn't post this next few parts, but damn it I'm gonna say something now. Not a lot though, but some. Most of you know already that I am BISEXUAL. I have been since I was 18 years old. This is NOTHING to be ashamed of at all. I refuse to come out to my family and those particular friends because of the area I live in is strictly bible belt and royally difficult. I have made a few references and subtle undertones... but they may be in denial. Of course, I am not entirely wanting to hurt my family, but I am not going to lie if they ever ask me about it.

They already do know I won't attend church and they know my beliefs on those tiny things, but they know they raised me right and that I have FAITH and refuse to give that up. They know I was raised by them and wonderful grandparents. They know I have several mini momma's and poppa's. They know I am in good hands.

I just get sick and tired of the flack gays and bisexual people get for trying to be happy. I get sick and tired of those that are not "fully normal" and how they get treated. Well I got news for you all folks NONE OF US ARE FULLY NORMAL. If we were we would all be NORMAN ROCKWELL PAINTINGS!

Society has their rules and regulations and half of us spent our lives trying to be perfect in their standards until half of us said a nice big FUCK YOU to them and started living only to get casted aside and treated like mortal shit, but guess what - I DID IT ALL ANYWAY and I still got casted aside and treated like mortal shit!!

Starved myself to literal thinness. Became so perfect at 16 years old that I had a mental melt down in high school friends rallied around me like WTF and you were so strong WTF happened to you??? Took so much shit and abuse that I refuse to note down in here, but the appropriate folks know about this stuff and most of you know of what I talk about anyway and all of that caused such damage, but here I STILL STAND and voila - YOU DIDN'T WIN OR BREAK ME!!!
